I don’t mind the rain. I spent the afternoon planting in the beds in the yard. But I’m not too excited about this thunderstorm. It sounds like it is going to be a long night.

Dan is off videotaping some show at the Kranzberg. And he has to be up early  tomorrow AM to drive to South Central Illiinois. I on the other hand will be spending the rest of the evening and a good bit of tomorrow finding things in the attic to throw away with the garbage tomorrow night.

After a great weekend, it’s back to the mundane. Oh, except for that window-rattling thunder that just hit.

This weekend began on a wet and rainy April Friday (the 13th!) with the opening game of the “world class” St. Louis Cardinals. The pre-game festivities were worth the price of admission. I’ve never seen a eagle fly in circles, let alone inside a stadium with 48,000 people, and return to its handler. Then what was arguably a decent rendition of The Star Spangled Banner, that old Prussian drinking song that seems to take old Prussians sitting around the Brewhaus to get all the notes. And then, immediately as the final notes and words were sung — “…and the home…of the…brave” — two F-16s do a flyby over the stadium to loud and raucous cheering.

Okay, so we lost the game to the Cubbies. But it still was a “world class” experience.

Saturday night we found ourselves sitting in Powell Hall, a magnificent venue, to hear the “world class” St. Louis Symphony in concert. Ravel’s Piano Concerto for the Left Hand followed by Prokofiev’s Scythian Suite were preceded by Rachmaninoff. I was left speechless at the conclusion of Prokofiev, only able to say “Wow.”

A great weekend in a great city. It’s good to be back in St. Louis.
